On Thursday morning around 2AM, QFC volunteers were dispatched to a home in Alexandria Twp for a CO detector activating. Engine 91 and Ambulance 91-51 arrived and found the family had evacuated and our team found 80 ppm of CO at the entrance to the home. High levels of CO were found on all levels of the house.

Rescue 91 was added to the assignment and the process of ventilating the house and testing air samples took around 90 mins. The source was possibly a generator’s exhaust that was running due to a power outage from last night’s thunderstorm.

QFC can’t understate the importance of working CO Detectors on all levels of your homes and businesses. Had the family not had a working detection system and slept in that environment of increasing harm for 4-5 more hours the results could have been very tragic.

June was a productive month at QFC thanks to the efforts of our Team of volunteers and District staff members. QFC was dispatched to 60 calls for service which resulted in 24 Division of Fire responses and 39 Division of EMS responses.

Eleven volunteers responded to 20 or more calls during the month. In addition, QFC held 6 training sessions, had all our ladders, pumps and hoses tested, repaved our parking lot and held a very successful QFC BBQ event.
